Growing up my dad was an avid collector and user of guns, mostly Remington and S&W. I started target shooting at an early age; in fact my dad bought me a Model 63 right before I was born! If the top strap (the area of the frame above the cylinder) is checkered and the right side of the barrel is stamped "S&W 357 Magnum", it is a S&W Hand Ejector (pre-Model 27). It could be a "Highway Patrolman" if the right side of the barrel is so stamped the top strap ... I already own a Shield but the Shield Plus has intrigued me since it came out. I really like the extra capacity and today I finally pulled the trigger. It's dimensionally almost identical to my Shield, but the short mag holds 10 rounds instead of 7, and the longer mag holds 13 instead of 8.

I'm going to give it a full polish, as I did with my S&W 460V (3lb/12oz of chrome-like stainless beauty with a custom-made Kansas Black Walnut grip). The grip on the 686 is black plastic with a rubber covering, and frankly - it leaves a lot to be desired.
